STRIP SCRIBBLES
*Racy rumors and wicked whispers: just wondering if “corporate” did infact send an official hand-delivered “strongly worded letter” to one of its Strip entertainers warning about wild behavior with a girl in his car parked at a rival property saying that it was considered a “contract violation”? …. Did Nip/Tuck actress Kelly Carlson start a romance buzz with comedy star David Spade when they arrived and left together arm in arm at a party in the new Planet Hollywood Resort nightclub Prive?
Also, just wondering what Vegas entertainers got a warning over in Macau that their Nevada party-lifestyles wouldn’t be tolerated in the Chinese gaming colony!
*A little silver lining just announced in the doom and gloom economic dark clouds. In February our Vegas visitor count had a 3.1 percent increase over 2007 figures with a total of 3.107,997 tourists pouring in. That gives us a 1.2 percent increase year-to-date against 2007. Convention attendees increased almost 16 percent to 893,982 delegates although we had 14 percent fewer conventions. Unfortunately they aren’t spending money so freely for now on eating, shopping and entertainment and our $2,012,099,670 economic figure year-to-date is a drop of 6.3 percent against last year-to-date. Gaming also showed a 4% drop in the February comparisons.
*For the first time ever Nevada is producing red wine. Congratulations to Bill and Gretchen Loken who own the Pahrump Valley Winery just about a 60-minute drive from the Strip. Today (WED) they host the “bottling and release of the wine” made from grapes grown solely in Nevada!
*Grammy singer-songwriter Josh Groban was at the Phantom musical in The Venetian resort—and after the Vegas Spectacular went backstage to meet the cast. Our Luxe Life photo captured him with Brent Barrett, the Phantom and singer-actress Jessica Walker.
*Due to space and time limitations resulting from the “breaking news” of Tiger Woods’ surgery we’ll have our planned photo report of starchef Roy Yamaguchi’s 20th anniversary celebrations here in Luxe Life tomorrow (THURS).
*From our “Surveillance” file: Rock superstars Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora enjoyed an Italian dinner at Rober DeNiro’s new Ago restaurant in the Hard Rock before partying in the Body English nightclub at the weekly Smashtime party. … Richard Rubin from Beauty and the Geek was at the sexy erotic X Burlesque cabaret-
revue in the Flamingo and actually went on stage for the “mile high” number where the “sexy stewardesses” stripped his shirt off behind the cockpit screen. … Comedians Carrot Top and Bobby Slayton sat separately at Company American Bistro in the Luxor resort checking out the new menu selections. Carrot Top ordered up roasted organic chicken and ahi tuna for his group and Bobby had an early meal before his show enjoying the Vietnamese summer rolls and smoked bacon and cheddar sliders. … Fresh from the Miss USA pageant, Miss Florida Jessica Rafalowski dined on the outdoor patio at Social House in Treasure Island ordering up the seared tuna salad.
*Far from the watchful eye of Poison frontman, Bret Michaels, the fierce foursome of Ambre, Frenchy, Inna and Payton from VH1’s hit reality show, Rock of Love 2 partied in style at the Jet nightclub in The Mirage.
