At the just concluded press-conference by Vegas Metro Police Captain James Dillon said the incident has been reported as an “armed robbery” because it did involve firearms.
“We have reports from the victim that there were weapons involved,” Dillon said, but he added that no firearms had been recovered and he stressed that the investigation was in its “infancy.”
No charges had been filed and no one was in custody at present, he added. It was learned that the door to the hotel room at the Palace Station was ” kicked in” and damaged off its hinges when Simpson and his pack forced their entry into the room.
Simpson, who was questioned immediately after the incident and made certain statements, was cooperating, Dillon said. The captain said a formal police interview was being arranged today (FRI) with the infamous football turned actor who wasn’t planning to leave Vegas immediately.
The matter will subsequently be sent to the DA’s office for whatever action will be taken against involved parties.

As of 11 a.m. the press conference has not started but Metro police have now said officially that Simpson is a suspect in the burglary allegations and is being treated as such accordingly. O.J. himself told Associated Press moments ago that he denied breaking into the room and that he was only there to get memorabilia that belonged to him.
Simpson said he was conducting a “sting operation” to collect his belongings when he was escorted into the room at the Palace Station casino.
Despite the denial, however, Metro will announce at the delayed press conference that they are continuing the investigation and will turn over the results to the District Attorney for that office to pursue any charges against Simpson and his group.
